When someone wants to quit smoking, what would you reccommend they do? Maybe start out by cutting back or something else? (I’m curious, because my boyfriend says he wants to quit, but that he thinks it’s best he slowly cuts back on cigarettes per day.)
Nah, scaling back never works.
He’s got to quit cold-turkey, with or without any of the various aids. He needs to get rid of cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays. Not put away, but get them out of the house.
Have lots of stuff for his mouth to do–hard candy, mints, gum, etc. Later he’ll have to wean himself off those, too.
Tell him how proud you are of him. Tell him how nice it is to kiss him now. Tell him how much better the apartment smells. Tell him you know this will help him live longer, look and feel better, and free him from an addictive need that can take a person outside in the dead of a winter night or in a thunderstorm. ("OMG, I’m out of cigarettes!")
Help him by taking him to places where he won’t smell others smoking. Ask his friends not to smoke around him for a while, until he’s more firmly quit.
And forgive him if he backslides–but encourage him to get right up and try again.
I am so ready to quit smoking but as stupid as it sounds I feel like quitting smoking is losing a best friend. I get so depressed when I try to quit which makes me start back. Any tips for quitting. The gum and patch just don’t work for me. I’d like to quit before it’s too late.
"What you call depression is in reality an illusion" HA HA HA!!! No effing way it’s an illusion! Been there and it’s real!
Hey, This isn’t a smoking cessation program or gimmick- definately not any kind of sales pitch either. 3 Weeks ago I ordered an E Cigarette. I figured if I was going to smoke, I might as well try to get off tobacco. Anyway…
I found this forum on e-cigs and did a lot of reading before I decided on which model and supplier etc.
I’ve been off real cigs for 4 days now, with no depression at all and no real withdrawal symptoms like all the other times. I control my nicotine lvl and will gradually step it down; when I’M ready!
Do yourself a favor and check it out. Costs nothing but time to do some reading.

I’ve been smoking since 6 years. I want to quit forever and by going cold turkey without taking tables or patches. Any tips ?
Be aware of …
- No one can quit if not entirely convinced to do so.
- There’s no best nor easy way to quit.
- Everyone is different in the way they stop smoking.
- What worked for someone might not work for others.
- The only way to tell if any given method works or not for someone is to try it.
- Anything to stop that habit is worth it.

Don’t try to talk me out of the cigarette, I already smoked it, well half of it anyways. Preferably only answers from those who have quit smoking or gone through what I am. I quit cold turkey by the way.
My experience is that "it’s only one cigarette" is a slippery slope and before you know it you’re back to how much you smoked before. But you did it already, so pick yourself up again and just get back with it. Don’t quit quitting!
Also, I’ve found that the hardest milestones to achieve are the third day, the third week, and the third month. I’ve never made it to the third year
so I don’t know about that one.
Good luck!
