my mom is trying to stop smoking for at least the 4th time now, and she is having a lot of trouble doing so. she doesnt wasnt to buy anything or use any medication, expencive or not, but she doesnt know what to do. i just want to help her out and want to know how to do so, thanks.

I just quit 30 days ago now… and after smoking for 10 years I know how tough it can be. There is nothing such as cold turkey in quitting. It has to be gradual withdrawal. Check what strenght cigarettes your mom used to smoke and then ask her to smoke half the strenght and half the amount for a few weeks and then half the strenght and amount again for a few weeks do this until she is smoking 2mg cigarettes and no more then 5 a day. After a while, replace the cigarettes with Nicotine gums and finally try going without cigarettes. It took me 6 weeks, but I’m off cigarettes for good. I used to smoke a pack a day and now I don’t need cigarettes at all.

My parents don’t believe in second hand smoke no matte how hard I try to convince them, and every time I bring smoking up they get angry at me and yell at me. I need to stop them… What should I do?

My parents were like that for years.
One time, my sister and I smashed all of their cigarettes.
Then, 2 years ago, my parents really wanted me to run track. I told them that the only way I would run is if they quit smoking by the time track started. They did, but they started up again so I quit.
I just kept on telling them all of the facts:
Every cigarette you smoke takes 7 minutes off of your life.
Tobacco kills one person every 10 seconds.
Every 30 seconds, someone in the world dies of lung cancer.
Cigarettes contain arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia and 43 known carcinogens.
Scientists claim the average smoker will lose 14 years of their life due to smoking.
Cigarettes can contain more than 4,000 ingredients, which, when burned, can also produce over 200 ‘compound’ chemicals. Many of these ‘compounds’ have been linked to lung damage.
There are so many more too!

My parents eventually stopped. And, it’s been a little over 6 months, and they haven’t even lit a cigarette.

Hi guys…I want to help my boyfriend stop smoking but I have no idea where to start…Is there something that he can do? A patch that he could try? Which one will give him some results?

I took a class on smokeing-prevention and stopping a smoker… Never leave him. Throw the cigs and everything away. Keep him ocupied so he won’t feel the need to smoke. Tell him , "hey, make a goal. no smokeing for 1 day". If you say "hey, no smokeing for 1 month" That will dis-courage him. If he makes it for 1 day then tell him to go again and say "good, try to get through another day without smokeing"… If you are really haveing problems, then go COMPLETELY cold-turkey. (that means no smokeing, no thinking about it, fantisizing, NOTHING that relates to smokeing..

good luck.

I’m 16 and I have been smoking for about 2 years now, I’m planning to stop because I’m going to a private school. I don’t want to put my parents money to waste, and I don’t want to ever break there heart if they find out about my bad habit. I’m very much addicted, I need about 3 cigerattes a day. I’m asking how I should stop smoking because it’s not like I’m going to buy nicotine patches or nicotine gum. Should I just slowly do less and less until I’m finally off of it. If your advice is to me is to just completely stop, its not that easy, even for someone who’s only done it for 2 years. If I don’t do it for a couple days my mind goes crazy. Does anyone have some real and sensible advice. Also I usually get my cigs from fishing.

A Yahoo search for "how to quit smoking" will help you.

My Father died of lung cancer that’s why im scared that it would happen same thing to my hubby. I convince him many times to stop smoking but he won’t listen. He does smoke when im not around with him.

That’s gonna be REALLY hard, especially if he was a smoker before you two met. But, the most important thing is, does HE want to quit. If he doesn’t, then as hard as it is, I think you should respect his decision. If he does, or at lease would consider trying, then there’s hope…

You can try to convince him by bribing him with other goodies… make a game out of it, and get fun and creative (if you know what I mean). Make deals with him… and above all, just them him how much you love him, and since you already lost somebody you love due to smoking, you don’t know if you’ll be able to handle the lost of another… Good luck!
